Kinnitty Forest Walks

The picturesque village of Kinnitty in County Offaly, in the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains on the R422 Mountmellick to Birr road. It is situated on the once strategic route across Offaly leading onto Munster (old Munster Road). The present village grew up around Kinnity Castle which was built by the Bernard Family in 1811. It is an excellent hub for walking, road cycling and mountain biking with access to the Slieve Bloom Way and also to a number of looped walks and Eop walks The trail head is located on the Mountrath road from Kinnitty.

Directions to Kinnitty trailhead

From Kinnitty Village, take the R421 following the signposts for Mountmellick and Clonaslee. After 200m veer right onto the R440 (signposted Mountrath). Continue along this road for 3km to reach the entrance to Kinnitty Forest on your left. Note: the trailhead is signposted from Kinnitty.

Walking Events

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club organise walks every weekend of the year. All of these walks are led by an experienced and friendly walk leader who is very familiar with the mountains. These walks are post to the Walking calendar weekly.

A panel of guides are also available if you are are looking for a personal leader who can tailor-make a walk to suit your party or group.
