Fishing in the Slieve Blooms

There is great fishing in the many mountain rivers, lakes and angling centres of the Slieve Bloom area.

Laois Angling Centre

Located at Coolrain in the shadow of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, less than 3 miles from the old N7, the Laois Angling Center combines the peace and tranquility of the Irish country side with exceptional game and coarse fishing. The four large spring-fed lakes, surrounded by mature woodlands, Clonohill House and farmlands provide the perfect natural conditions for both the fish and fisherman. The lakes are stocked regularly with brown and rainbow trout, carp and bream ensuring a varied and interesting experience. The modern facilities include a large parking area, wheelchair access, tackle hire and light refreshments with picnic and barbecue areas ideal for family and corporate events. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Laois Angling Center provides the complete fishing experience.

Lough Boora Discovery Park Lakes

An area of the Parklands has been developed into a number of still water fishing lakes as both local and tourist amenities.

Pallas Lake

Stocked with brown trout and rainbow trout Pallas Lake is a small fishery 13 km south-west of Tullamore. It is stocked with brown trout and rainbow trout. Bank fishing only is permitted. The fishing methods are restricted to artificial fly, and there is a three-trout bag limit and an eleven inch size limit. An IFI permit is required to fish this lake.

Game Angling

The large sister rivers –the Nore and Barrow – rise in the Slieve Bloom mountains, have trout and salmon, while many of their tributaries e.g. the Whitehorse, Delour and Camcor offer very good trout fishing.
